The Sixth Commandment, in the original Hebrew, is only two words: don’t kill. The clear moral principle in view is the protection of human life. First, for life’s sake. Second, because every human carries the image of God. Living, as we do, in a culture of death will require us to carefully consider what dignity life, in God’s design, truly demands.
