Everyone has memories of their childhood. Some of those are difficult; leaving scars. We need to be reminded that all of us have scars. And for the Christian, we need to be reminded of the providence of God at work in them all. Joseph’s childhood memories are filled with scar-potential. Most of those difficult memories are littered with the deadly fruit of a passive father. Jacob’s passivity, like any passive father’s, was an ever present destructive force.
