Influence is defined: the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. Living the Christian life is living under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Before we consider Paul’s corrective to the Corinthians regarding their corporate worship and the abuse of the spiritual gift of tongues, we should consider the biblical history of this gift. In so doing, we’ll find the influence of the Holy Spirit bringing, not chaos, but divine control.
